Greta Thunberg (Teenage inspiration for Climate Action)

In Mar 2019, 1.4 million young people around the world take part in strikes for Climate action. The Global youth strike movement is inspired by a 16 year old Climate Activist in Sweden, Greta Thunberg.

Greta Thunberg is a teenage Swedish Climate activist who seeks to stop Global Warming. She is one of the youngest Climate activists who captured the world’s attention on Climate change.

In Aug 2018, Greta became a prominent figure for starting the first school strike for climate outside the Swedish parliament building. In Nov 2018, she spoke at TEDxStockholm. In Dec 2018, Greta addressed the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP24) in Poland on behalf of Climate Justice Now.

Extract:

“Speaking to The Straits Times on the sidelines of a climate protest in the Polish city on Saturday (Dec 8), Greta said: “There is a lot you can do as an individual to take climate action. First, you can make changes in your everyday life, by not flying, going vegan, and not buying new things.

“You can also learn more about the climate crisis, try to understand it, realise what it actually means, and to spread the word to other people, talk about it with them, and put pressure on people in power.”

Greta is not just dishing out advice – she also practises what she preaches.”

Greta herself has stop flying, convince her entire family (father, mother and sister) to go vegan with her, and Shop-stop (stop buying new things). [She does occasionally buy second-hand things.]

It is inspiring to see that the young generations are studying about Climate change, understanding that it could threaten the survival of the Human race within 10 to 20 years and being more vocal about it.

We can support the movement by taking Actions to reduce Climate change:

  1. Reduce flying on planes, take public transport.
  2. Reduce meat consumption (by half), Support Meatless/ Veggie days, Go Vegan.
  3. Support Carbon tax.
  4. Buy only when necessary. (Reduce consumption)
  5. Read up on Climate change issues.
  6. Spread the message.

Every action counts. :>
